A Most Interesting Tape

By John L. Smith

I recently found an audio tape; it has one of my printed labels on it, but no author.

However, this fellow has a Ph.D. from Brigham Young University, he was never a Mormon.  He was evidently speaking to a Christian group.

He mentioned in a very complimentary way my book Brigham Smith, which he praised as a novel by a minister with a longtime experience in Utah and he went right down quoting the book and the information printed in it.

What I did when I wrote the book, I took the information I had accumulated over the years in witnessing to, and conversing with Mormon people.

Most people who would try to witness to Mormons would discuss polygamy, perhaps prophets, the Book of Mormon, etc.

My method, and I’ve improved on it greatly since I wrote the book, is to mention that in most confrontations with Mormons, if either gets in a tight spot, he just changes the subject, going from one to another.

My way is to get the Mormon to agree to, whatever happens, not change the subject but stay with the one, most important subject, not even consider changes on subjects.

Therefore, it is important to arrive at an agreement to begin with, to stay with the chosen subject regardless of a desire change it.

I can usually get a Mormon to commit to the doctrine of God.  After all, if one is wrong about God, he can be no farther wrong.

Now, what do you believe about God?  Was He the creator?  Was He ever not God?  Can He cease to be God?  Is there more than one?  Are God, Christ, and the Holy Ghost three Gods, or are they one God in three persons.

If you have a problem with that, I am a father, I am a grandfather, and I am a great-grandfather.

But I am one being.  God, being who He is, has omnipresence.  He is not limited to one place.  Father, Son and Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit are one, and can be at more than one place at a time.

The Book of Mormon teaches this!

·        Title page, second paragraph

·        Is the CHRIST, the ETERNAL GOD

·        Note the capital letters

·        The Three Witnesses agree!  They said “And the honor be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the        Holy Spirit, which is one God.  Amen.”

The Book of Mormon agrees with that!

  Mosiah 15:1-4, Alma 11:22-29; 38-39; 44, Mormon 9:9-11, Moroni 8:18 and a dozen or more other places.
